Create an easy, one of a kind polymer clay pendant from Sculpey. Wrap with copper wire, no glue required.
Time Scale: 2 out of 5
Start by conditioning your Sculpey by squeezing in between your thumb and fingers to soften. After the clay has been conditioned, break into small pieces. Use mostly the blue/green color, with a small amount of gold and a very little bit of black. Mix colors together, BUT don't over mix.
Shape into desired shape. I made mine narrow at the top and wider at the bottom. I shaped it to resemble a piece of polished rock, like turquoise.
Using pliers, wrap the copper wire in a loop. Put this at the top and start
curling the wire around and down the clay piece. Wrap about two and a half times. Be careful not to wrap it too tight, or you will squish it.
After wrapping the wire you may have to reshape the clay, if it has been pushed out of shape a bit. I wanted mine indented slightly into the clay. This will make it very secure inside the wire, with no gluing necessary.
Copper wire is expensive. Mine has been salvaged from leftover pieces of electrical wire. You can cut open and peel back the outer coating and the copper wire is inside. It is a bit of extra hassle, but I don't mind putting in a little extra time, to save some money. I do a bunch and then wrap it up to save for other projects later. I'm sure, this is a much cheaper alternative for acquiring copper wire than buying the small packages at the store.
Apply a small amount of perfect pearls™ in copper, using a small paint brush.
After you have the desired shape, bake in a preheated toaster oven, according to manufacturers directions. If using sculpey III®, bake at 275 degrees F. for 15 minutes per 1/4 inch. I baked mine for about 20 minutes.
When cooled, apply two coats of sealer. When this is dry, attach to a chain.
Your one of a kind polymer clay pendant is complete. Easy as that.
