  • shoe box
  • pictures
  • white glue
  • things that will fit in the shoe box that are special to you

When you are feeling down, it can be very difficult to get out of that mood. Sometimes, it seems hard to muster up the energy to shake it. Make this Emotional First Aid Kit, ahead of time and have it on hand. Like a present, you give yourself. It will be there waiting to be opened and come to the rescue, just when you need it! There it will be, with the contents to tell you "Hey, look at this. Remember the good things in life! Not everything is bad."

Emotional First Aid Kit How To:

Start with a shoe box or a similar small cardboard container. Find pictures that you like and glue them all over the box, into a collage. You can use pictures you print or just cut some out of magazines or flyers. Pick pictures that have special meaning and that you like.

After that is dry, decoupage over the pictures with white glue that has been slightly watered down.

Now you need to start thinking of what should go inside the box that would make you feel better, when you are feeling down.

Here is a list of ideas:

  • A movie that you really like
  • A C.D. with your favorite music
  • A treat like a chocolate bar
  • Gift card to your favorite store or to the spa
  • cash to use for a special occasion
  • An inspirational quote, article or book
  • Photos of family and friends
  • List of phone numbers
  • Your own positive journal, a list of what you like about yourself
  • A special letter from someone
  • List of things that you can do to help improve your mood example: go for a walk, bake some cookies, volunteer
  • Grandma's best cookie recipe
  • List of positive experiences or achievements
  • Your best report card
  • An award
  • Something that makes you laugh

When you are finished your emotional first aid kit, it should be stored for easy access. Having this to go through when you are having a difficult time, will really help. This will serve as a reminder of the good things in your life. It could also give you that much needed nudge to get out and do something, to put you in a better mood.
