Needle Felted Heart How to

Start with a piece of red wool about 6 inches long and 4 inches wide.

Push in the sides to start to shape the heart. Curve the top. You need to start with it quite a bit bigger than what the finished size will be because the wool compresses when felted.

Needle felt this slightly and then pull up from the foam and turn over to do the other side. Keep adjusting the wool until you have the shape you want. If you are having trouble getting the correct shape you can use your scissors and trim it. It should now be about 3.5 inches long by 2.5 wide. It is okay to just have a shape that is fairly flat.

Start-shaping

After you have the basic shape, you then will want to start adding fullness to the one side. Use small pieces of wool and add to the front. Only needlefelt it a small amount, before adding more wool. If you felt it too much you can start to get hard lines and you don't want that. Keep adding wool to the front, until you have the fullness that you want.

Sew a piece of ruffled lace around the outer edge using white thread.

Use black embroidery thread and sew on whatever valentine message you would like. Some examples are "Be mine, Love,
Kiss, XOXO etc. To figure out spacing you can trace the heart on to a piece of paper and then write your word in to see if it will fit.

Sew-on-lace

To make the arrow, use either white glue or a glue gun to glue a small feather on the end of a round toothpick.
Make a hole on the right side about three quarters of the way down with the toothpick. Add glue to the end of the toothpick and stick it in the hole at an angle up towards the top left corner of the heart.

Feather-on-arrow

Cut a small heart shaped piece out of red colored felt. Poke a toothpick through the heart, in through the front and then out the back. Put it on the toothpick with the wide end down.

Make a hole in the left side of the needle felted heart near the top with a toothpick. Add white glue to the toothpick and stick in at an angle. Line it up so it is the same angle as the toothpick with the feather on it.

You now have a needle felted heart to give to your valentine!
